With just over 5hrs to go before kick-off, I think that had the Germans got Heidi Klum in goal, rather than Mr Kahn (or rather Mr Lehmann), then they would generate considerably more support....I know who I'd be cheering, given half the chance.

The predictions for this afternoon's opener of Germany v Costa Rica are as follows:

Jake: 2-0, Stu: 1-1, Tim: 1-0, Steve: 3-1, Andy: 2-1, Phil: 2-1.

Result: 4-2

Wow! Not many of us would have believed a 6 goal thriller was on the cards - and a couple of fantastic goals to start off the tournament. Let's just hope that Germany's defence remains as fragile for the rest of the competition.
