With just over 5hrs to go before kick-off, I think that had the Germans got Heidi Klum in goal, rather than Mr Kahn (or rather Mr Lehmann), then they would generate considerably more support....I know who I'd be cheering, given half the chance.

The predictions for this afternoon's opener of Germany v Costa Rica are as follows:
