Jake's World Cup Predictor Blog

A World Cup blog for predictions and any other random thoughts that I might have over the next 6 weeks or so. Should be updated with scores, predictions and rants about poor refereeing, lucky Germans and why we can't take penalties.

Day 6 standings

1 Jake 42
2 Steve 41
3 Andy 40
3 Tim 37
5 Stu 34
6 Phil 33

Germany v Poland 1-0

This is where the competition really starts. There could (and probably will) be tears after this one, with Poland being the first team to get knocked-out. 5 of us had predicted them to make it to last 16 - but before Stu gets too smug I'll remind him that he went for Costa Rica rather than Ecuador. Idiot!
Germany v Poland predictions: Jake, Tim & Andy 1-1, Phil & Stu 2-1, Steve 1-0.

Germany first to make it to the final 16 at their own party (a bit like their reputation with towells and sun-loungers).

This was how most Germans were looking until the last few minutes before they got the winner. Who says Germans are fat, ugly and have silly moustaches? A 1-0 win for Germany puts them into the last 16, and gives Steve 5pts. Stu & Phil get 3pts, while Jake, Tim & Andy take a solitary point.

Tunisia v Saudi Arabia 2-2

Hardly a game to get the pulse racing - but it'll probably be a 7 goal thriller.
Tunisia v Saudia Arabia is the final game of 1st round group matches.
Best team so far (IMHO) has been Argentina.
Here are the predictions:
Jake, Stu, Phil & Andy 2-1. Tim & Steve 3-3 (golly!).

2-2 with a late equaliser from Tunisia. Ukraine will be happiest with this result. Tim & Steve get 3pts, while the rest of us get 1pt each.

Spain v Ukraine 4-0

Spain v Ukraine
This is the decider for who wins the group.
Draws abound: Jake & Andy 2-2, Stu, Steve & Tim 1-1. Only Phil has gone for someone coming off the pitch happy - Ukraine to win 1-3.

A thrashing for Ukraine and for the second time in the competition, no points for anyone.
Amazingly, the first penalty was awarded in this game - but it never should have been given.
